Travelin' Companion" was going to be a 2 disc project. There was, however more neat stuff, and the first 2 had about 300 downloads each,so I added Vol 3. There were a few nice tunes that didn't fit,but not a whole disc's worth. Recently a half dozen more shows appeared on the dime,so now there's material for a good Vol 4. I'm letting Gilly put out her 5th album before I think about a Vol 5.
If I spend time listening to my live Gillian CDs,I'll hear some songs on many, especially the ones on their albums, but some songs appear only once,or just a few times. the "Travelin' Companions" bring togather many of Gillian and David's seldom played songs. I like these discs for taking to work, playing in the car,,,,travelin'.
Everything was at some time a torrent on STG,EZT or The Dime. Some songs got needed remastering, especially the older stuff. All remastering was done in Soundforge. A varity of tools were emplyed incluing pitch correction and EQ on a few songs. Most needed nothing but an edit and balancing volume to blend with everything else-the most time consuming part.

I opened with an intro to Long Black Veil,Long Black Veil and Wrecking Ball from the Rio in Santa Cruz. This was a week prior to the release of the album so nobody had heard Wrecking Ball-which is about Gillians years in Santa Cruz. Long Black Veil begins with an intro about GW + DR playing the song in Nashville,pre-Revival. Mike McKinley,a friend of Gilly's in the Wrecking Ball days plays mandolin on Veil. Next is early Gillian, the opener of the Hotel Utah set from Working On A Building. The motormouth people near the mics had not yet begun to chatter. I tried to restore Unwed Fathers,a John Prine cover later in the set but,it was not enough improvement. Unfinished Business,a demo-studio track was a natural as Vol 4 was that-then a cowboy band version of Witchita, which is sweet,a bit cleaned up from the 4-disc set. Since that started a travel theme-Barstow,Dry Town,Appalachacola Bound and Dylan's Tonight I'll be Stayin' Here. Another cover,Black Star follows, with, later, Neil Young's Time Fades Away and Tonight's The Night. A twist is Deal,a Dead cover with Buddy Miller singing lead,Gillian and David Harmony...And David plays electric guitar while Gillian plays Bass.
I left in some between-songs chat,if it fit well. I tried to get the whole thing to sound listenable and good quality. I grew real fond of many of these song while assembling this, and you will find a favorite too.

Had to substitute a different Appalachacola,as Strawberry shos recently became taboo on dime...drat!
